Most college students can’t afford to buy Alaskan king crab for dinner every night. Lack of finances leave university attendees feasting on a steady diet of Ramen noodles and Easy Mac.

But if you find the right spots, a tasty and affordable meal could be just a short walk away. Here are five restaurants in Iowa City’s downtown area that are diverse and delicious, but won’t break the bank.

T-Pain Kicks-off the new School Year at Hawkapalooza

Hawkapalooza is back with Grammy-winning artist, T-Pain! Hawks Nest and SCOPE Productions kick-off the new school year just right! The annual FREE event will celebrate Hawkeye athletics with a pep rally, free food from local vendors, and a free concert featuring T-Pain. 

T-Pain has risen to a house-hold name with his unique auto-tune voice and personal genre as “Hard and B”. In 2005, T-Pain exploded onto the scene with his iconic song; “I’m N Luv (Wit a Stripper)” and that song help him launch his label, Nappy Boy Entertainment the same year. Shortly after T-pain’s big break, he has produced several other songs and has made numerous collaborations with artist such as Li’l Wayne, Kanye West, R. Kelly, and others. In his newest album, rEVOLVER, “5 O’Clock: with Lily Allen was featured in the Top 10 single. Now, T-Pain joins the University of Iowa to perform at Hawkapalooza!!

Hawkapalooza is open to all students and public. The event will be at Hubbard park on Thursday, September 6th starting at 7 p.m.
